🎉 🎙️ I had the joy of connecting the Science of Reading to the concept of SEL with a friend, Krista Leh, Ed.D., in her podcast series! 🎙️ 🎉
Anyone who knows me has heard me talk about the importance of using strong instructional routines to teach K-3 reading. Often, I only have enough time to discuss the "how and why" at an introductory level to help teachers successfully implement routines for phonics instruction as beginners. We don't necessarily have the opportunity to dig deeply into the "why."
However, with Krista, I explain the deeper why, and I explain why using evidence-based instructional routines benefits struggling readers at an emotional level and creates a sense of safety that empowers them to learn more effectively.
It was a great conversation with a few fun tangents - including a reference to CS Lewis' lesser known book "Out of the Silent Planet" - interspersed throughout. 😁
